The Study of Human Movement: A 2-day Introductory Course on the Relationship between Postural Control and Functional Movement – The Bobath Concept

Prerequisite: Entry level qualification and college registration.

Course Description:

This course provide the therapist with an introduction to the Bobath Concept.  The Human Movement Course lays the foundation knowledge on which all other Bobath courses are based.  The participant will be introduced to the analysis of human movement on course participants as a basis for discussing the assessment and treatment of deviations of posture and selective movement.  The course comprises lectures, patient demonstrations, practical workshops as well as informal discussions.

 

Course Objectives: 

At the completion of the course the participant shall be able to:

  • Recognize the importance of a problem solving approach in the assessment and treatment of movement dysfunction.
  • Begin to observe and analyze human movement with reference to base of support, alignment and selective movement with respect to activity performance.
  • To develop an understanding of balance with respect to predictive and reactive postural control strategies.
  • Appreciate the influence of sensory information on motor behaviour through an experience of facilitated movement.
  • Begin to describe the relationship of neural and musculoskeletal plasticity to patient potential.

Waiver:
All participants must sign a waiver and a manual handling disclosure to participate in the practical components.

Dress:
Please wear appropriate clothing for undressing during practical sessions, e.g. shorts, sports bra.

Certificate:  
A certificate cannot be issued if non-attendance to the course is > than 2 hours less than the course schedule.

Refreshment Policy:

Refreshments will be provided during AM and PM break.  Please bring your own water bottle/coffee cup.
Registrants are required to bring their own lunch.
CBIA Cancellation Policy:
  • A $150 cancellation fee will be charged if the participant cancels up to one month prior to course commencement.
  • If the participant cancels within one month of course commencement, a refund will only be granted (minus $150 cancellation fee) if the course place is filled by another registrant.
  • The Canadian Bobath Instructors Association reserves the right to postpone or cancel a course if a minimum number of course registrants is not met. Course registrants are responsible for their travel expenses including changes to bookings, please take the above into consideration when booking flights and/or reserving accommodation.
    CBIA reserves the right to substitute CBIA Instructors if any one of them is rendered unable to teach

    • There will be close contact during practical and treatment sessions
